Shopping a Business's Online Store

Many businesses on MemberZone sell one-off items in an online store, alongside their clubs, memberships or programs. You don't need to be a member to buy, though some items are for members only.

Finding the Store

  • On a business's page, open the Shop tab. The store has its own address ending in /shop, so you can bookmark or share it.
  • In your member area, Shop in the top tabs (the bottom bar on a phone) opens the store of the business you're viewing. See Member Dashboard.

Old links to a business's Shop tab still work and open the store.

Browsing

  • Categories - the chips across the top show each category and how many products it has. Each one opens that category's own page; All takes you back to everything. Clicking the category you're on also takes you back.
  • Tags - the colored chips below the categories (for example "New arrivals") open a page of everything with that tag.
  • Search - type in the search box at the top of the business's page.
  • Pickup or shipping - when the business offers more than one way to get your order, pick it from the dropdown. The store shows what's available that way, and remembers your choice as you move around.
  • Filters - sort by name or price, show physical or digital items, set a maximum price, or show only items in stock.

Every page you visit, with your search, sort and pickup or shipping choice, has its own address, so the browser's Back button steps back through them and a shared link opens the same view.

On a product's page, its category and tags link to their pages, so you can find more like it.

Adding to Your Cart

  • Tap Add on a product to put one in your cart. The button turns into - and + so you can change how many; going down to zero takes it out.
  • Each time you add something, a message confirms it with View cart.
  • Items marked Members only need an active membership with that business. If you're signed in without one, they show Members instead of Add.

Your Cart

The cart icon at the top opens your cart from the side. For each item you can change the quantity or remove it, and you'll see your subtotal, any member discount, and a shipping estimate for shipped orders. Tax and fees are added at checkout.

Clear cart empties it after asking you to confirm. Checkout opens the checkout page.

Checking Out

Checkout takes you through four steps, one at a time:

  1. Contact - your name, email and phone (and date of birth for some businesses), or sign in instead.
  2. Delivery - Pick up (with the location's address and phone) or Ship to me: your address, then a shipping speed.
  3. Payment - a card you've saved with the business, or a new card. Your card is charged only when you place the order.
  4. Review & place order - add an optional note, agree to the terms, and tap Place order.

Tap Continue to move on. Each finished step folds into a one-line recap with Edit if you want to change it. If your cart is all digital items, there's nothing to deliver, so the Delivery step is skipped.

Your Order summary stays beside the steps on a computer, showing your items, a promo code field, any member discount, tax, shipping and the total. On a phone, tap the summary bar at the top to open it; the Continue or Place order button stays at the bottom of the screen.

If you check out without an account, one is created for you after payment and you're signed in, so you can see your orders. Your orders appear under Orders in your member area. See Orders & Purchases.

Shipping

Shipping is set by the business: it may be free, a flat rate charged with your order, partly covered by the business, or paid by you at the carrier's rate.

When you pay some or all of the carrier's rate, many businesses get a live price from the carrier once your address is in. The Delivery step then shows each shipping speed's price with a note such as "UPS Ground · About 5 business days", and that price (or your share of it, above what the business covers) is charged with your order and included in the total. Checkout waits a moment while it gets the price. If the price changes just before your order goes through, nothing is charged: you'll see the new shipping and can place the order again from Review.

Where there's no live price, the summary says so instead: "Up to $X covered" (anything above that is charged when your order ships) or "At fulfillment" (the carrier's cost is charged when your order ships). Either way, the total you see at checkout is what you pay that day. The cart shows the business's usual shipping wording; the live price appears once you enter your address at checkout.

If your address, items, or pickup or shipping choice change after you order, shipping is priced again and the difference is charged to your card or refunded. Switching to pickup refunds the shipping you paid.

When Something Can't Ship

  • An item can't be shipped: the Delivery step names it with Remove, so you can ship the rest.
  • The business doesn't ship to your state: pick a different address, or choose pickup.
  • Tax can't be worked out for your address: some businesses use an outside service to calculate tax on shipped orders. If it can't price your order, checkout stops before payment and tells you why: either one of the items can't be shipped right now (choose pickup, remove it, or contact the business), or tax couldn't be calculated for the address right now (try again in a few minutes).

In each case, if the business offers pickup, Switch to pickup appears. If pickup is at a different location from the one your cart came from, your cart is emptied first (after you confirm) and you go back to the store to add your items again.

Order Confirmation

Once your order is placed you'll see Thank you for your order! with your order number, where your confirmation email was sent, how you'll get your order, your items and what you paid. View order in your account opens the order; Continue shopping takes you back to the store.

Date of Birth

Businesses that sell alcohol, cigars or cannabis can only sell to people 21 or older, so their checkout checks your age:

  • Signed in: if your profile already has your date of birth, there's nothing to enter. If it doesn't, checkout asks for it once and saves it to your profile, so you won't be asked again.
  • Not signed in: enter your date of birth at checkout.

You can't place an order with these businesses if you're under 21. Other businesses don't ask.
