Vinoshipper Integration

Vinoshipper is an alcohol shipping and compliance platform ("Alcohol shipping compliance and fulfillment.") that handles state-by-state compliance, age verification, adult-signature delivery, and temperature-controlled options for direct-to-consumer shipments. Use Vinoshipper when compliance is a hard requirement; for broad multi-carrier coverage, see Shippo. You can also run both and choose a carrier per state.

Vinoshipper is a business-wide integration: "One Vinoshipper connection covers all of your locations."

The Vinoshipper page lives at Settings > Integrations > Vinoshipper.

What Vinoshipper Enables

  • State compliance - Vinoshipper applies the right rules per destination state, including blocked states and per-state limits.
  • DTC shipping - direct-to-consumer carriers and shipping flows built for alcohol.
  • Temp control - pass-through to carriers that support refrigerated or insulated transport.
  • Adult signature - signature-on-delivery for every shipment.
  • Product sync - your products are linked to your Vinoshipper catalog.
  • Producer account - each Vinoshipper account represents a producer; testing the connection returns your producer name.

For shipping speeds and costs, see Shipping Configuration.

Connecting Vinoshipper

When Vinoshipper isn't connected, the page is titled Connect Vinoshipper with a Docs link. The API credentials panel (Key + secret) has:

  • API key - placeholder e.g. 5755.79C7…. The part before the first dot is your Vinoshipper account ID; MemberZone reads it automatically.
  • API secret - a password field, placeholder Your API secret.
  • A help line: "Need help finding these? Email Vinoshipper support."

Then two buttons, both disabled until the key and secret are filled in:

  • Test connection - checks the credentials with Vinoshipper without saving them. On success: "Connected! Producer: {your producer name}". On failure: "Connection failed: {error message}". Reads "Testing…" while it runs.
  • Connect Vinoshipper - saves the connection. Reads "Connecting…" while processing, then "Vinoshipper integration created".

Tip: Click Test connection first. If the producer name comes back correct, click Connect Vinoshipper.

Beside it, Where this applies explains that Vinoshipper handles alcohol compliance and shipping for every location in your business, with the highlights State compliance, DTC shipping, Temp control, Adult signature and Built for alcohol, and a Vinoshipper site button.

Where to find your API credentials

Vinoshipper doesn't show API credentials in its merchant dashboard by default. Email support@vinoshipper.com and ask for an API key and secret for your producer account, including your producer name and account ID.

Connected View

Once Vinoshipper is linked, the page header reads Vinoshipper, with a Learn more button and a status badge showing the connection's status and that it is business-wide.

The side panel shows:

Field Description
Account ID Your Vinoshipper account ID (the part of your API key before the first dot).
API secret Masked. To use new credentials, remove the integration and connect again.
Connected on When the integration was connected, on your business's calendar.

If a recent Vinoshipper call failed, an error alert shows the message above the Connection panel.

The Connection panel ("Open Vinoshipper to manage your account, or remove the connection to disconnect compliance, fulfillment, and product sync.") has Open Vinoshipper and Remove integration.

Day-to-Day Use

Once Vinoshipper is connected, MemberZone uses it wherever it is the carrier (your Default carrier, or a state's carrier under Carrier by state on Settings > Shipping & Compliance), and for compliance when it is your Compliance engine:

  • Rates - live rates per destination state. Disallowed states are surfaced before checkout.
  • Store checkout quotes - for a store order on Cover Up To or Customer Pays shipping to a Vinoshipper state, checkout asks Vinoshipper for a live rate per speed once the address is in (shown as, for example, "UPS Ground · About 5 business days"), and the customer's share is charged with the order. Vinoshipper prices the products themselves and packs its own boxes, falling back to a box estimate when it can't. Free and Flat Rate don't use a quote, and club, membership and program shipments are never quoted. A store order charged a quote is labeled with the service the customer paid for while Vinoshipper still offers it. See Live Shipping Quotes for Store Orders.
  • Compliance handling - each shipment is validated against state rules before a label is printed. Turn on Check compliance before charging to run volume, annual limit and product registration checks when you charge a release instead.
  • Adult signature - Vinoshipper shipments require an adult signature on delivery; the carrier enforces this.
  • Tracking - as packages move, MemberZone receives tracking updates and shows them on each order.
  • Tax - shipped orders to states Vinoshipper ships for you are taxed by Vinoshipper. Your store checkout and program join pages show Vinoshipper's tax once the customer's full address is in. If an item in the order isn't synced to Vinoshipper, or Vinoshipper can't be reached, checkout stops before payment instead of guessing. See Taxes & Fees.

Product Sync

Vinoshipper can only ship and tax products it holds, so each item you ship through it needs to be synced. Open the item under Inventory > Items and go to its Fulfillment tab; the VinoShipper section shows its status:

  • Not Synced to VinoShipper - use Sync to VinoShipper. The button waits until shipping is on and the item has a weight (and, for alcohol, a Variety / Style and ABV %).
  • Pending VinoShipper Approval - submitted; Vinoshipper reviews products within one business day. Cancel & Edit withdraws it so you can change it.
  • Synced to VinoShipper or Approved on VinoShipper - ready to ship and to be taxed.
  • Out of Sync - shipping details changed since the last sync; Re-submit to VinoShipper sends them again (re-approval usually takes one business day).
  • Sync Failed - shows Vinoshipper's reason, with Retry Sync.

Virtual items, such as fees and event tickets, are never synced to Vinoshipper; they ride on the order without being shipped, and never add a box or block a label.

Only a synced item can be taxed by Vinoshipper. While an item is not synced, pending approval, out of sync or failed, a shipped order containing it to a Vinoshipper state stops at checkout, and the error your team sees names the item and why.

Variety and product type. A sync sends Vinoshipper the varietal that matches the item's Variety / Style within its own product type, because the same name (for example Rosé) can be a still and a sparkling varietal. Sparkling styles Vinoshipper doesn't list by name, such as Brut or Champagne, go by colour: rosé, red, or otherwise white. A variety with no match is left off rather than sent under the wrong type.

When Vinoshipper rejects an item's category, the failure reads "VinoShipper rejected the product category ({Vinoshipper's detail}). Check that the item's Product type and Variety/Style go together."

Appellation Tagging on Products

When you fill in the Origin (appellation) on an inventory item via the Shipping Details tab, the appellation dropdown is sourced from Vinoshipper's appellation list - which has a three-level structure (country → region → appellation). Several appellation names appear in more than one region (e.g., multiple "Other" entries), so MemberZone displays a disambiguated label in the dropdown:

  • When an appellation appears under exactly one region: shown as Appellation Name (Region, Country) - for example, Napa Valley (California, US).
  • When an appellation appears in multiple regions: shown as Appellation Name (N regions) - pick the one that matches your product.

The search box matches against the full disambiguated label so typing "Napa" surfaces "Napa Valley (California, US)" cleanly. The country and region are stored alongside the appellation name so downstream label generation, compliance checks, and reporting always know exactly where the product comes from.

Appellation caching: MemberZone caches the appellation list from Vinoshipper for 24 hours to keep the dropdown fast. If a Vinoshipper API hiccup ever returns an empty list, we don't cache the empty result - we'll re-fetch on the next request so the dropdown isn't stuck empty.

Recipient Compliance Validation

Before generating a shipping label, MemberZone asks Vinoshipper to validate the order against the destination state's compliance rules. If something is wrong, the response includes one or more validation problem codes that MemberZone surfaces in plain English in the fulfillment UI - for example:

  • Missing recipient DOB - Vinoshipper requires the recipient's date of birth. The order also gets a Missing Recipient DOB blocking issue so you can resolve it from the member sidebar.
  • State restricted - The destination state does not allow direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping through your provider.
  • State not configured - Your States you ship to list doesn't include this state.
  • Address incomplete / unverifiable / PO box - The destination address can't be shipped to as entered.
  • Quantity / volume exceeds provider limit - The order exceeds Vinoshipper's per-shipment cap.

Each problem links to the specific field in the member sidebar so staff can fix it without going hunting. Zoe can explain every problem code.

Troubleshooting

Symptom What to check
Error alert on the Vinoshipper page Read the message. The most common cause is a credential mismatch after Vinoshipper rotates an API secret: request a fresh secret from Vinoshipper support, remove the integration and connect again.
Test connection succeeds but Connect Vinoshipper fails Refresh the page and try again. If it persists, contact MemberZone support; the Vinoshipper API can occasionally rate-limit during onboarding.
A specific state isn't quoting Vinoshipper enforces state-level rules. Check States you ship to on Settings > Shipping & Compliance and confirm Vinoshipper covers that state. See Shipping Configuration.
Producer name is wrong on test The credentials belong to a different producer account. Contact Vinoshipper support for the right key and secret.
Labels aren't printing Check that every item in the order has shipping enabled and a weight, the destination is allowed, and your Vinoshipper plan covers the package class (refrigerated, etc.). Also look for a Missing Recipient DOB blocking issue on the order.
Checkout says an item "can't be shipped right now" An item in the order isn't synced to Vinoshipper, so Vinoshipper can't calculate its tax. Open the item's Fulfillment tab and sync it (see Product Sync).
Sync Failed: "VinoShipper rejected the product category" The item's Product type and Variety / Style don't go together in Vinoshipper. Correct one of them, then Retry Sync.
Appellation dropdown is empty for an inventory item The list may have failed to load. Re-open the Shipping Details tab; MemberZone re-fetches automatically. If it stays empty, check the Vinoshipper page for an error alert.
Two "Other" appellations look identical Hover or expand: the disambiguated label tells you which country and region each one belongs to. Pick the one that matches your product.

Removing Vinoshipper

Click Remove integration and confirm in Remove Vinoshipper integration ("This removes the stored credentials and disconnects Vinoshipper webhooks. Synced product links are cleared. You can reconnect anytime with new credentials.").

After removal:

  • Vinoshipper rates, labels, compliance checks and product sync stop.
  • Existing labels and tracking stay on each order.
  • Reconnecting later means entering your API key and secret again.
