Joining a Membership
How to Join a Club, Membership or Program
Step-by-step guide to joining a club, membership or program on MemberZone, from choosing a tier through checkout to becoming a member, including the optional "How did you hear about us?" question.
How to Join a Club, Membership or Program
This guide walks you through the complete checkout flow for joining a club, membership or program on MemberZone, from choosing your delivery method to entering payment and becoming a member. Each business uses its own word (club, membership or program) and its own word for what you receive (for example bottles, bags or shares); this guide says club and items.
Finding a Club to Join
- Browse clubs on MemberZone (see Finding & Browsing Clubs).
- Click a club to view its detail page.
- Select a tier if the club offers more than one (for example "Classic" and "Premium").
- Click the Join button to begin the checkout flow.
The Checkout Page
After clicking Join, you land on the checkout page. The form is broken into a short stack of numbered step cards. Each card's number turns into a checkmark once you've completed it, so you can see your progress at a glance. On desktop, a summary of your order sits to the right; on mobile, a sticky footer with the total and the join button stays pinned to the bottom.
Delivery
If the club offers both shipping and local pickup, the card's subtitle reads "Choose how you'd like to receive your order." and it shows two tappable options:
- Pickup - shows a map pin icon. Subtitle: "Pick up in person."
- Shipping - shows a truck icon. Subtitle: "Delivered to your door."
The selected option is highlighted with the club's brand color. Depending on what you choose, this card also shows:
- Pickup location - if the club has more than one location, pick where you'll collect your order. Each option lists the location name and address. Only the locations the program offers pickup at are listed.
- Shipping speed - if you're shipping, choose a speed (e.g., "Ground", "2-Day", "Overnight") with its cost (e.g., "Free", "$12.99 flat rate", "We cover up to $15.00"). The default is pre-selected.
If the club offers only one fulfillment method (and no speed or location choice), the Delivery card is skipped and the method is chosen automatically. Access-only memberships have no Delivery card at all.
Your home location
For an access-only membership (nothing to pick up or ship) offered at more than one of the business's locations, the first card is Your home location, subtitled "The location this membership belongs to". Each option lists the location's name and address. Pick the one you belong to, usually the one you visit; the rest of the checkout appears once you've chosen. Your membership's tax is worked out at that location, so the total updates to match.
If the membership is offered at just one location, this card doesn't appear. You can see your location later on your membership page; to change it, ask the business.
Your items
If the club asks you to choose items at sign-up (common for release clubs), a "Your items" card appears (it uses the business's word, for example "Your bottles"):
- The subtitle tells you what to do: "Select at least [N] items", "Choose the items you'd like", or "Included in your package" when the set is fixed.
- If a minimum applies and you haven't met it, a red banner reads: "Please select at least [N] items to continue."
- Each item shows its image, name, and price (with a strikethrough original price and a green discounted price when a member discount applies), a "Recommended" badge on pre-selected items, and − / + quantity controls. If the club locks quantities (Exact Set mode), the controls are hidden.
Your details
This card collects who you are and where the order goes.
If you're not signed in, it shows one of two forms:
- Guest checkout (default): Full Name, Email, Phone Number, and Date of Birth. If shipping is selected, address fields appear too (Street, Apartment, City, State, ZIP). Already a member? Sign in (beside Full Name) switches to the sign-in form.
- Sign-in form: Email address and Password with a Sign in button. No password? Click Email me a sign-in link, enter your email and click Email me a sign-in link ("No password needed. We'll email you a one-time link."). The link brings you right back to this checkout and expires in 30 minutes. Use password instead switches back, and "Don't have an account? Continue as guest" returns to the guest form.
Your email is already on file? You don't have to sign in. Many people already have a MemberZone account without knowing it, for example from a business's rewards program, an import, or a membership with another business. As soon as you type an email that has an account, checkout tells you: "We already have an account for this email, so we'll add this to it and any rewards points carry over. No password needed: after checkout we'll email you a secure sign-in link." Prefer to sign in first? opens the sign-in form. If you carry on as a guest, the new membership goes on that account; checkout doesn't sign you in or show anything from the account, so sign in afterwards to see it.
If you're already signed in and the order ships (or the club needs a pickup address), you'll pick from your saved addresses, add a new one inline, and see a brief "Checking shipping eligibility..." message while your state is validated. An ineligible state shows a red error.
Some businesses use an outside service to calculate tax. When they do, the tax in your order summary comes from that service, so it matches what you're charged: for a shipped order once your shipping address is complete, and for a pickup or access-only membership from the address of the location it belongs to. If the service can't price your order, checkout says why and you can't join until it's resolved: "One of the items in this order can't be shipped right now. Choose pickup, remove it, or contact the business." (shipped orders) or "We couldn't calculate tax for this order right now. Please try again in a few minutes." For a shipped order the message shows at your address; otherwise it's the step named under the join button.
If the program asks signup questions, they appear here under "A few quick questions" (for example your size or a preference). Questions marked optional can be left blank; required ones must be answered before you can join. You can answer optional ones later from your membership page.
How did you hear about us?
At the bottom of the details card is an optional "How did you hear about us?" dropdown. Pick whatever brought you in (for example Word of mouth, Instagram, Google or web search, an event, or Staff recommendation), or leave it blank. It doesn't change your price or your membership; it simply tells the business what's working.
If you pick Staff recommendation, a second optional question appears: "Who recommended us?" Choose the person from the list so the business knows who to thank, or pick Not sure. The list shows the business's current staff by first name and last initial (for example "Jordan S."). If the business hasn't added any staff, this second question doesn't appear.
You can't change your answer after you join, so pick the one that fits best.
Payment
- If the total is $0 (free membership), a note explains a card is still required in case your membership terms change later.
- A card field (powered by Stripe) collects your card number, expiration, CVC, and ZIP, styled to match the other inputs. Card errors show in red below it.
Review and confirm
The last card is where you place the order:
- Have a promo code? - expand this to enter a code; any discount shows in your order summary.
- Total due today in the club's brand color, with a "Then $XX.XX per month/quarter" note for subscription clubs.
- Some programs charge your first period later, when your first cycle's billing period starts, rather than at signup. Then today's total leaves out the plan price (any signup fee is still charged today), and the note says when you'll be charged, for example "$45.00 per month plus fees and tax, first charged Nov 1, 2026". A promo code on your first period comes off that later charge.
- On desktop, a terms checkbox ("I agree to the terms & authorize recurring charges", or "I agree to the membership terms" for release clubs) and the Join Program button. When something's still missing, the button is greyed out and a line beneath tells you the next step (e.g., "Add a payment method to continue"). Otherwise it reads "Secure checkout".
The order summary
- Desktop: a sticky rail on the right shows the club image, plan name, description, an itemized breakdown (membership, items, enrollment fee, tax, service fee, promo discount), and a recap of the total.
- Mobile: a sticky footer shows the total (tap the chevron to expand the breakdown), a terms checkbox, and a full-width "Join Program - $XX.XX" button. When something's missing, a line above states what's needed.
When can you place the order?
The join button is enabled only when everything applicable is done: shipping speed chosen (if shipping), minimum items met (if required), required signup questions answered, guest details entered (if a guest), a valid delivery address in an eligible state (if it ships), the payment card complete, and the terms accepted. Until then, the button explains the single next step to take.
After Joining
When checkout succeeds:
- A success message appears: "Welcome to the program!" If you checked out as a guest with a new email, it reads "Welcome to the program! You're signed in, and your welcome email is on its way."
- You're redirected to a Join Success page showing:
- Confirmation that you've joined
- Your next billing date, shown as First charge when your first period is billed later
- Your delivery method
- A link to your new membership or enrollment order
- If you checked out as a guest with a new email, your account was created without a password and you're already signed in. Your welcome email has a link that signs you in, and you can always use Send me a magic link on the sign-in page. To set a password, see Accounts & Authentication.
If your email already had an account
The message reads "You're in! We added this membership to your existing account. Check your email for your sign-in link." The success page says We added this membership to your existing account: your email was already on file with the business, so your new membership and any rewards points you had live on that account. You aren't signed in. Use the secure sign-in link in your email (no password needed), or request a fresh one from the sign-in page any time, and click Sign in to see my membership.
If you already belong to this club
Checkout won't create a second membership in the same club for the same email. If that email is already an active or trialing member, or is waiting to be activated by the business, checkout stops before anything is charged and says so (for example "{email} is already an active member of this program"). If you used to belong and cancelled, it says "You have a previous membership with this program. Please sign in to restart it, or contact the business for assistance." Sign in and restart from your membership page instead. See Managing Your Membership.
Troubleshooting

| "This program doesn't currently ship to [State]" | Choose a different shipping address in an eligible state, or switch to Local Pickup. |
| "One of the items in this order can't be shipped right now" | Choose pickup if the club offers it, change your item choices, or contact the business. |
| "We couldn't calculate tax for this order right now" | Wait a few minutes and try again. Nothing has been charged. |
| "...is already an active member of this program" | That email already belongs to this club. Sign in to see the membership. |
| "You have a previous membership with this program" | Sign in and restart your membership, or contact the business. |
| No password for the sign-in form | Click Email me a sign-in link in the sign-in form, or carry on as a guest: your purchase is added to your account. |
| Button stays disabled | Read the line beneath the button - it names the single next step (e.g. add a payment method, choose a shipping speed). |
| "Agree to the terms to continue" | Check the terms checkbox above the Join button. |
| "Please answer [question]" | Answer the named question under A few quick questions in the details card. |
