Using Member Rewards on Clover

On Clover, member rewards are discounts your staff pick themselves. Clover can't limit a discount to one customer, hide it from everyone else, or apply it on its own, so MemberZone adds each reward to Clover's discount list under its register name and puts what each member holds on their Clover customer note. Clover never applies a member reward automatically.

This needs Clover connected for the location (see Clover Integration).

At the register

  1. Add the member as the order's customer. Search for them in Clover's customers. Every member is a Clover customer (see Members on Clover).
  2. Check their customer note. The MemberZone block lists their program, tier and status, the rewards they can use with uses left (for example "(3 left)", or "(used)" once they've used it all for now), and their points.
  3. Pick the discount under Discounts in Clover, using the name the note lists. For an item reward, apply it to the eligible item's line.
  4. Take payment. Once the order is paid, MemberZone records the redemption, the sale and the member's points.

What Clover can't check

Clover's discounts can't carry these rules, so staff need to check them. The reward editor's Preview warns you about each one when Clover is connected:

  • No maximum discount. The full discount comes off, whatever the reward's maximum.
  • Whole percentages only. A percentage with decimals is rounded: 12.5% comes off as 13%.
  • No minimum spend or item count. Staff check the order qualifies before they apply it.
  • No item limits. Clover can't limit a discount to items, so it can go on any item or the whole order. Staff put an item reward on an eligible item's line themselves.
  • No allowance check. Clover doesn't know how many uses a member has left. Staff read the uses left on the note. A use past the member's allowance isn't recorded in MemberZone.

Rewards priced in points, benefits (such as a free tasting) and discounts on program and store orders aren't in Clover's discount list. Record benefits on the member's profile in MemberZone when you hand them over (see Reward Redemption).

Points, redemptions and refunds

  • Points: a paid sale to a member earns points in your Rewards Program, on the same rules as other registers.
  • Redemptions: each member discount on the order is recorded as a redemption, shown with the source Clover on the Redemptions page, and the member's uses left go down on their note.
  • Refunds: a refund takes back its share of the points. A full refund also gives the member back the reward uses.
  • Voids: a voided payment or a deleted order takes the sale out of the member's purchase history and undoes its points and redemptions.

Only sales made after you connected Clover are recorded.

Turning a reward on or off

A discount reward set up at the location appears in Clover's discount list. Turning it off at the location deletes its Clover discount; turning it back on adds a new one. Disconnecting Clover removes all the member discounts MemberZone added.
